Ashington RFC would like to thank all past players and members who came to Saturday’s event. It was great to see more than 70 past players and members turn up and have a chance to talk about previous victories and even the occasional defeat. Some of us were even able to read through 30/40‑year‑old match reports from the Sunday Sun and News Post to relive those matches. The clubhouse was full throughout the day and the atmosphere buzzing.

The day was complimented by a handsome win for the 1st team beating Sedgefield 40–10, and the 2nds running Durham City Saracens very close, losing narrowly, 19–15.
Big thanks go to Keith Liddell for sponsoring Saturday’s game and for bringing former teammates and past players from famous Welsh club Swansea RFC to our event. Keith, on behalf of the Swansea lads, presented the club with a Swansea shirt and the club president with a 150th‑anniversary tie (of which only 150 were made).

Saturday was a very successful day, and we look forward to hosting another past players and members event in the first half of next season. Look out for the date when publicised and we look forward to seeing you — and hopefully even more of you — there next time.

Ian Blacklock
Club President
