Jarrovians RFC Ltd

41 - 29

(HT 0-0)

Ashington Joint Welfare RFC

Jarrovians took an early lead with one of their first bits of possession when their fullback returned a poor Ashington kick racing 70 metres through several missed tackles to score a converted try.

On 12 minutes a Hepple break saw Reynolds in support, his 40metre run was stopped  in the 22, from the ruck Ash spread the ball wide to the right wing to a streaking Ryan Taylor who raced in for an excellent try.

On 17 minutes Ash were penalised for dissent, a feature that happened a number of times during the game, and from the tap penalty Jarrovians drove over to take a 12-5 lead.

The Ashington scrum was totally dominant at this stage and Chris Johnson drove over for the first of his three tries, with Arkles conversion levelling the scores at 12-12.

Jarrovians ended the half strongly but Ash were defending well until Hepple was harshly yellow carded for what the referee deemed a high tackle. Jarrovians taking advantage of the extra man to score with the final play of the half to lead 19-12.

On 50 minutes Ash were again penalised for dissent, Jarrovians kicking the penalty to extend their lead. Ash then had a nightmare 12 minutes where a series of unforced errors and missed tackles saw them concede 3 trys and 19 points.

Ash fought back and Johnson added his second try driving over from a rolling maul.

A great Ryan Taylor run was followed up by Johnson who was stopped just short. From the resulting scrum the Ash pack shunted Jarrovians off their own ball for Johnson to touch down for his hatrick try, Arkle converting.

Ash then had several opportunities to close the gap but were penalised at a couple of scrums when driving forward, before a Finlayson break saw him feed Reynolds who outpaced the covering defence to race 60 metres for the final score of the game.

When Ash played to their strengths they dominated this game, Johnson carried excellently throughout for his 3 trys but Ashingtons man of the match was awarded to young winger Ryan Taylor who always looked dangerous with the ball in hand.

Ashington 2s lost 55-0 to a strong Morpeth side.

Next week Ash are away to Redcar in what is a winnable game if they put out a strong team and play to their strengths.
