The home side started strongly and Ash were forced to defend before Forster struck a 10th minute penalty to give WBR the lead. WBR then took full advantage of a John Tuck injury to go the length of the field for Forster to score, 8-0 to WBR. Ash replaced the injured Tuck with youngster Joey Moulding and from an attacking line out Ashingtons first flowing back move saw Andrew Reynolds score in the corner to make the score 8-5 after 21 minutes. 4 minutes later WBR extended their lead with a try by Stanford-Davis.
Ash replaced injured prop Brad Smart with Dylan McMorn and a fantastic 50-22 from Hepple set up a good attacking line out for Ashington and on 33 minutes after a period of Ash pressure Harry Lumley finished a line out catch and drive to score in the corner, score 15-10.
WBR once again extended their lead just before half time when a long kick was followed up by Bradford, who gratefully caught the lucky bounce to cross for a try, converted by Forster. Half time 22-10 to WBR
The second half was a scrappy affair, Ash dominated the scums and line outs but the home sides more mobile pack ensured they still got a fair share of the ball, with the only scores coming from 2 WBR penalties. Ash ended the game with 4 colts on the pitch with the introduction of Leo Townsley, replacing Gareth Newman for the final 20 minutes.
Ashington man of the match was Jack Scantlebury, who along with line out partner Harmer dominated the line out and worked tirelessly in the loose.
Next week Ash will want to be at full strength away to table topping Barnard Castle.
