Ash returned to winning ways with a strong performance against a Westoe side who had been 4th in the league before today’s game.
Ashington ran in 6 trys, 3 in each half, 5 of them converted by Johnny Arkle, who was back in his preferred position of scrum half. The trys came from Harry Lumley, playing in the unaccustomed position of centre, fly half Tyler Hepple, who crashed through 2 tackles to score near the posts, 2 trys from Dan Lansbury including an excellent individual run from 50 metres, a typical barging rumbling run from man of the match Greg Henderson, and a fantastic individual try from Joey Moulding who took off inside his own half and beat four players on the way to the try line.
This was a much improved Ash performance, with all players contributing, they scrummaged well throughout, Rogerson, Henderson, Scantlebury and Brierley all carried well in the forwards, Lansbury proved difficult to tackle in the centre and the half backs of Arkle and Hepple took much better options to ensure Ash controlled the game for long periods.
Next week Ash are at home to North Shields KO 3pm.
